About Asfandyar Khan
Asfandyar Wali khan is the grandson of Bacha Khan and son of Wali Khan. Currently he is the president of ANP. He has served in the provincial assembly and in both houses of Pakistan's parliment. He is among the new educated class of politicians. He holds a MBA degree. Just like Wali Khan he is known for his extraordinary political capabilities. He is a great speaker and inpsires young and old to rally around the nationalist platform of ANP.
Political Career
He served as leader of the Pakhtun Student Federation prior to being elected to the provincial Assembly in the 1990 election, while in the 1993 election he was elected to Pakistan's National Assembly. A seat to which he was re-elected to in the 1997 election. In the 2002 election, ANP did not do too well, when tactical alliance was formed by all the anti-ANP groups against him. This was also the time of a wave of religouis fever after the US invasion of neighbouring Afghnaistan resulting in raising sympathy for Islamic parties in the traditionaly religious and orthodox pushtun areas. After his defeat he resigned as President of his party, only to be re-elected unopposed in the subsequent party election. In 2003 he was elected to the Senate as Senator for a 6 year term.
